Dear Friends!
I have just announced that The Carolingian is online, this time with an excellent choice of contributions, from Petrarca’s climbing of Mont Ventoux in Latin to Markus Jäger’s criticism of religious and altruistic behaviour as mechanisms of psychological suppression. German speakers will also rejoice at the Leo Beninga’s surrealistic poetry, together with one of his recent drawings.
The preparation of this edition was quite emotional. One of the contributors, who has long supported The Carolingian, is suffering from a terminal disease. Heiner Thiessen writes in English about his haunting memories of an old schoolmate shortly after WWII in a village near Hamburg. I would be very grateful if you could honour his contribution with your time and reading.
As with many things in life, little did I know, when started The Carolingian in 2016, that an unassuming personal newsletter would evolve into something so much bigger than myself. Although I now rarely write for forum, the greater satisfaction for me is to withdraw in the background and give a voice to those with something meaningful to say—in a world in need of debate for a critical and informed society.
Thank you very much, again, for your support! As always, feel free to reply and share your impressions on the new edition.
Best wishes, GA
